The WGA will have its guild awards tonight. This is the last of the four major guilds (DGA, PGA, and SAG the others) to have their ceremony. The winners should be announced sometime later tonight. I'll be out tonight, so I will have some thoughts tomorrow along with the my weekly Oscar update.
The awards tonight seem to be predictable with Milk for Original and Slumdog for Adapted. Both these scripts are also frontrunners for the Oscar. The Oscars are a little screwed up this year that in the Original category WALL-E failed a WGA nom, but gained an Oscar nom. The reason I bring this up is because WALL-E is a threat to knock Milk off, but we won't get to see an early preview of this matchup.
Where in previous years precursors can be very valuable in predicting some of the big races, this year is not the case. The Original Screenplay is one example of this (Supporting Actress and Actress other ones).
I'll have more tomorrow.
