Slumdog Wins BAFTA

As expected Slumdog has won the BAFTA. The awards keep coming for this film. Can it be stopped? Probably not. Slumdog has now won all four major guilds (DGA, PGA, SAG, WGA), Golden Globe, BFCA, and BAFTA. That is one hell of a run. What was the last film to do that? American Beauty in 1999. Actually, that is the only other film to do that since the BFCA and SAG awards were created in the 90s. I'm going to take a more detailed look at history tomorrow, but it's simply amazing.

Other winners at the BAFTA awards were Kate Winslet and Mickey Rourke. Both were expected to win and I don't think either win changes much. Winslet should still be the frontrunner for Actress. I still feel like Rourke will lose to Penn. Milk was not well represented by the British Academy, which is understandable. Most people figured Penn would lose this. Penn has won the more important award this awards season, which is the SAG. Voters of the Globes and BAFTA don't vote for the Oscars.

Penelope Cruz and Heath Ledger also won, which should were also not huge surprises. Ledger has won everything. Cruz was in a film shot in Europe, so I figured that would give her the edge there. I do think that win will help her Oscar campaign in the wide open Supporting Actress category.  I see that race between her and Viola Davis.

Oh, and Danny Boyle won again.  N0 surprise as he should also cruise to the Oscar.

With the BAFTA awards done that leave only one award show left:  The Oscars.  Only two weeks away.
