What a game the other night! I thought it very well could be over for the Patriots, but they managed to pull off an amazing victory. And, here we are watching the greatest season in maybe the history of sports. The Patriots finished the regular season 16-0. It's incredible really that a team in the NFL, in the salary cap era can go through the season without a loss.
The Pats had their fair share of close calls, but managed a win every time. That game winning touchdown against the Giants might have been the greatest regular season play in the history of the NFL. Look at it like this. It gain the Pats the lead and helped the team finish 16-0. It also established new NFL records for TDs by a QB (50 for Brady) and TDS by a WR (23 for Moss). Plus, the catch was amazing considering the previous play Moss dropped a long pass from Brady. I was watching the game with my sister, her boyfriend, and my sister's friend, and you wouldn't be able to find a gayer moment from two straight men when that play was executed. We both jumped off the couch and started to jump up and down. That play was simply electrifying.
Now, the big question is will this team finish the deal in the playoffs? Never say never in the NFL, but I can't picture them not finishing the deal. I just don't see it. The possible Colts rematch in the AFC Championship is scary, but I have a good feeling about it. This is how I look at and it's real simple. The only way to beat this team is to take Brady out of the game. Their opponent needs to establish a solid pass rush to pressure Brady into making mistakes. If you look at the close calls, that's how the Pats have almost lost. Now, look at the Colts. Dwight Freeney is on the IR. That's a huge loss that I don't think the Colts can replace him in the big matchup.
I'll post a preview on the divisional round matchup for the Pats in a couple weeks, but for now I'm going to sit back, relax, and enjoy a perfect Patriot regular season!
