John Lennon's birthday is today. He would have been 67 years old. Even though, he's been dead for almost 27 years people still celebrate his birthday. Today, for example, Yoko Ono unveiled a tower of light dedicated to his memory. The Imagine Peace Tower will stay illuminated until December 8th (his death).
And, I'm sure Strawberry Fields in New York is busy as hell right now as people are gathered to remember the man. Hell, even VH1 Classic is showing a good amount of Lennon material today. I was watching a little bit of "Imagine", the 1988 documentary on him. I laughed at that the fact that VH1 censored the word "Christ" in his song, "The Ballad of John & Yoko". Somewhat ridiculous if you ask me.
Still, with all the tributes, it would have been interesting to see Lennon today. I'm not going to pretend to think what he would exactly be like, but one can only imagine what the previous 27 years would have been. Let me just say if anyone thinks the likes of Bono and Al Gore are powerful, well then you have no idea what you're talking about. Because John Lennon was probably the most influential person of the fifty years. His words and opinions were extremely powerful. It didn't matter what the topic was. People listened and that is why he was and always will be a special person.
Happy Birthday Johnny.
